The principals of every school in the Worcester school district have come out in support of Superintendent Maureen Binienda and Public Safety Director Rob Pezzella, as another group pushes to get rid of them.
The school heads signed onto a letter from the Worcester Principals’ Association that signals their staunch support of both Binienda and Pezzella, who in recent days have faced criticism over the disciplinary treatment of students of color, particularly Latinos. Suspension rates, showing Latino students at the higher end, and other issues, such as chronic absenteeism, where again Latino students have a higher rate, have been among the concerns raised.
