Blanca Martinez was born in Honduras and from an early age was destined to leave it.
When she was 1, she was diagnosed with polio and her parents, poor, overwhelmed and some would say heartless, abandoned her, placing her in an orphanage. She didn’t meet them until she was 24. “They wanted nothing to do with me,” Blanca Martinez said.
