More than 150 residents said they opposed a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility being located in Newton County.
County officials, however, denied that there are plans for the facility at this time.
Opponents attended a meeting Aug. 4 at First Baptist Church in Roselawn to oppose such a facility. The meeting was organized by the group No Roselawn Prison, led by Ryan Farrar, Democratic candidate for state Senate District 6, and his father Nick Farrar, who is running for Newton County Commissioners District 2.
