BOSTON — Legislation revamping the state’s overtime laws would add or improve protections for one in four salaried workers across Massachusetts, but the Trump administration’s proposed approach would have just a fraction of that impact, according to a new report from the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center.
The federal Department of Labor in March unveiled a plan to increase the minimum salary threshold for employees to qualify for overtime pay from $23,660 to $35,308. That change would expand overtime access for about 1 million more workers nationwide and, according to MassBudget, about 105,000 in Massachusetts.
