I am an unapologetic Muslim American woman of color, and I am fed up with the bandage-allyship my elected officials have served me and my community.
I find it particularly fitting to call the double standards out today, on International Muslim Women’s Day, and to express my deepest disappointment in these elected officials’ betrayal of Muslims, women of color, and marginalized communities in America. To all of you who fall guilty of this, and particularly to my congressional representative Albio Sires (D-8th Dist.) and Senator Robert Menendez, I refuse to allow your tokenization of me and my community to continue henceforth.
