One supporter of the measure told 7News that aspect of substance abuse needs more attention.
“A lot of people think when you are sent to prison for possession, that you get treatment. That’s also not true,” explained Amanda Kiger, with the Ohio Organizing Collaborative. “You are not in the prison population long enough to qualify for treatment. So, we’re literally ‘warehousing’ people, and they’re coming out worse than they were before, because they do not have any treatment, and they aren’t able to work many times.”
