For her part, Martha Lorena Rivera, who took refuge at the Holy Cross Retreat Center in New Mexico, described her situation as “very difficult”.

Rivera is the mother of three children, her youngest daughter stays with her during the week and from the sanctuary church she goes to school from Monday to Friday, on weekends she visits her father with her sister.

“This situation has helped us to continue … my daughter comes and has the opportunity to see me, but we can not go together to celebrate together, as we used to,” she said.
