When it comes to leveling the playing field for women of color in nonprofit organizations, men and women in leadership need to make sure women receive equal doses of responsibility, resources and recognition to get the job done.
To do this, senior leaders must understand commonly held gender stereotypes and create structures and practices that name, notice and correct for these biases in the workplace. In particular, executives and senior leaders need to understand the differences in perceptions between men’s and women’s expressions of anger and assertiveness and their approaches to career negotiations.
