Dayton 24/7 Now – SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WKEF) — A federal judge blocked the Trump Administration from ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian immigrants, the Associated PressĀ reported a little before 8 p.m. on Monday.
U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes in Washington made the decision, which can be appealed by the federal government.
Geoffrey Pipoly, a partner at BCLP Law Firm in Chicago who is working on the case, told Dayton 24/7 Now that the lawsuit challenging the legality of ending TPS is still going through the legal process, but he expected the judge to make a decision whether or not to temporarily pause things today, given that TPS for Haitians was supposed to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3.
Pipoly said they won in court on July 1, 2025 to extend TPS for Haitians with the case Haitian Evangelical Clergy Association v. Trump. That extended TPS for Haitians to Feb. 3.
