WASHINGTON – Faith leaders and immigration advocates are calling out today’s Supreme Court decision for leaving the fate of birthright citizens in limbo and enabling the administration to push forward their reckless agenda. In this moment of uncertainty, people of faith are standing firm in their resolve to protect immigrants. In statements, leaders from Faith in Action condemn today’s ruling and offer words of support to those affected:

Bishop Dwayne Royster, executive director at Faith in Action: “This court continues to lead us down a road of cowardice and moral depravity and risking the degradation of constitutionally granted rights. All of God’s children deserve safety and peace of mind, regardless of their status. This is not just my opinion; it is enshrined in the Constitution as a fundamental right. The road ahead will be difficult, but this fight is far from over. The resolve of people to stand up for birthright citizens and speak out against injustice is stronger than attempts to silence our voices and disparage our existence.”

Yaquelin Valencia, program manager of youth engagement and voting at Faith in Action: “The cruelty of today’s decision is undeniable and deeply painful. The decision to kick the can down the road fans the flames of hate and division and will put immigrants and their families at increased risk. By allowing access to basic constitutional rights to be dependent on zip code, the court is moving the country further away from true family values and stripping the humanity from families like mine. The systems designed to protect us are failing on all fronts, and our prayers for peace and justice are falling upon deaf ears.”
