Antisemitism and religious hate endanger the safety and livelihoods of all God’s children
WASHINGTON – Following yesterday’s brazen display of antisemitism in Boulder, Colorado, faith leaders are denouncing the incident, which is being described as a “targeted terror attack.” In statements, leaders with Faith in Action expressed concern about the continued rise in antisemitism, as yesterday marked the second antisemitic attack in two weeks:
Bishop Dwayne Royster, executive director of Faith in Action, said: “Antisemitism and all forms of hate are a deep scar on our country. The onus to address rising antisemitism lies on all of us. Faith leaders across the country are joining in the aftermath of these horrific attacks to offer our support to the Boulder community and pray for the full recovery of the victims. Any justification of such violence is a moral failing counterintuitive to the mission of pursuing justice for all.”
Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, board member at Faith in Action, said: “Acts of hatred and violence against civilians anywhere are morally reprehensible and cannot be justified; killing or harming Jews because they are Jews is wrong, and we condemn all such attacks wherever they occur. The attack in Boulder happened on the eve of Shavuot, when we Jews celebrate the giving of the Ten Commandments. Our joy is greatly diminished, and the rise of antisemitic violence exacerbates our fear. We pray for the full recovery of all those wounded in Boulder. Our responses will be guided by experience. History is clear: Jews are safest in democracies where freedom of speech and freedom of religion are core values, and for over a thousand years, Jews have been safer in a world with low barriers to immigration.”
