Faith in Action Condemns Violence Targeting Immigrants Following Shooting at ICE Detention Center in Dallas, Texas
Washington – Following the tragic shooting at an ICE detention center in Dallas, TX, Bishop Dwayne Royster, executive director of Faith in Action, issued the following statement condemning violence toward immigrants:
“My heart breaks again as I weep for more lives lost to gun violence. My prayers are with the wounded and the traumatized. I mourn with the family and friends who today lost their loved ones, knowing that they lost their loved ones not once but twice — first when they were detained in this administration’s unjust and immoral attack on immigrants, and again today.
“The Bible urges us to care for all God’s children and to love our neighbors. And yet, we have failed to uphold those commandments. We have failed as guns and weapons of war are easier to secure than food, health care, and a quality education. And we have failed as we turn on each other, denying one another’s humanity and deciding that violence is the answer to our problems.”
