Washington, DC – Faith in Action/LA RED reported Sunday that the community had received reports of immigration raids in the Washington, DC area in the early morning hours of Sunday.

While the reports were credible, Faith in Action/LA RED continues working with the community to determine the nature of the reported incidents and to confirm if or how many immigrants may have been detained.

“We have asked our immigrant communities to remain vigilante, as Trump is determined to deport immigrants, whether it is today, or tomorrow or two weeks from now,” said Richard Morales, policy and program director of LA RED, Faith in Action’s immigrants’ rights program.

“As we noted when Trump announced the raids and then imposed a two-week delay, these are devious actions that are nothing less than holding our families hostage. As the largest faith-based network in the country — a network that includes Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda, MD, where Rosa Gútierrez López has taken sanctuary as she seeks asylum — it is our mission to prepare for Trump’s racist attacks so that we are ready to defend our communities, wherever and whenever these raids occur,” Morales added.
