Faith in Indiana said that should the parents be deported, their children would likely go into foster care. The group described Fierro and Pena-Rodriguez as active members of St. Patrick Catholic Church and as “beloved community members with never more than a traffic ticket.”
Shoshanna Spector, executive director of Faith in Indiana, said that should not matter because policy for 11 million undocumented immigrants needs to be fixed.
“We should not be using ICE agents to tear up families,” she said. “The reality is they’re focusing on the most vulnerable, reversing decades of immigration policy of prioritizing people who are a danger to the community. Law-abiding family members are easy to find.”
