Leaders are demanding answers in Smith’s death, which occurred while he was being transported by SPD after being violated in a voluntary parole check in.

“The Smith family was largely kept in the dark regarding the details of Brandon’s death while being detained and transported until June 13 when they were finally able to view the video of his arrest and transport. However, they are still being denied answers to critical questions around his detention and access to the autopsy, which was completed two days after his death,” the statement continued.

The call to action is being launched by groups such as LEAD, Black Lives Matter Sacramento, Sacramento Area Congregations Together, Women For Equality, Voice of the Youth, The Village Advocates of Sacramento, BSU, and the Sacramento County African American Coalition.
