My name is Brenda Martinez and I am 24 years old and a border Dreamer. The reason why I do this work is because I want to help fellow Dreamers get out of the shadows and be proud of who they are and where we come from. I know what it is to feel fear of people knowing your status and I don’t want people to get stuck in that feeling.
Amongst the many battles we fight on a daily basis in small rural communities, my focus is to fight with Dreamers to stay in the only country we know as home.
My family keeps me energized to do this work. Being the first one in my family to graduate from college really pushes me to be a role model and to keep fighting for what I feel belongs to me like an opportunity to work in the United States.
My biggest hope right now is that we overcome this pandemic. COVID-19 has taught us what we thought was impossible, to separate from each other, but at the same time become united as one as we fight against it. I would also like to overcome the pandemic of fear that attacks my fellow dreamers, our families, and the immigrant community in general. I would like to see opportunities for new DACA applications and a path to citizenship for us.
Currently, I am leading with others in our efforts to strengthen and grow relationships with other Dreamers in my community. I want to see more directly impacted people taking action around DACA. Another great project I am working on is encouraging the immigrant community to complete the census. I want to make sure that everyone gets counted.

Mi nombre es Brenda Martínez y tengo 24 años y soy una Soñadora de frontera. La razón por la cual hago este trabajo es porque quiero ayudar a los otros compañeros Soñadores a salir de las sombras y sentirse orgullosos de quiénes son y de dónde venimos. Yo sé cómo es sentir miedo de que la gente conozca el estado legal de uno, y no quiero que la gente se estanque en esa sensación.
Entre las muchas batallas que peleamos a diario en las pequeñas comunidades rurales, mi enfoque es luchar con los Soñadores para quedarnos en el único país que conocemos como nuestro hogar.
Mi familia me mantiene con la energía para hacer este trabajo. Siendo la primera en mi familia que se graduó de la universidad realmente me impulsa a ser modelo y seguir luchando por lo que yo siento que me pertenece, como la oportunidad de trabajar en los Estados Unidos.
Mi mayor esperanza en este momento es que superemos esta pandemia. COVID-19 nos ha enseñado lo que pensábamos que era imposible, separarnos unos de otros, pero al mismo tiempo haciéndonos uno mientras luchamos en contra de este. También quisiera superar la pandemia de miedo que ataca a mis compañeros Soñadores, nuestras familias, y la comunidad inmigrante en general. Me gustaría ver oportunidades para nuevas solicitudes de DACA y un camino a la ciudadanía para nosotros.
Actualmente, estoy dirigiendo, con otros, nuestros esfuerzos para fortalecer y desarrollar relaciones con otros Soñadores en mi comunidad. Quiero ver a las personas más impactadas tomar acción alrededor de DACA. Otro gran proyecto en el cual estoy trabajando es alentar a la comunidad inmigrante a completar el censo. Quiero asegurar que cuenten a todos.
