LEE — This week, Mercy Cuellar walked because her undocumented community is paralyzed, she said.
Alongside her young daughter, on Friday she wore a highlighter yellow safety vest as her feet hit the blacktop approaching the Lee traffic circle. The late afternoon sun hung heavy. She was led by a royal blue banner that read “Immigrant Justice in New Hampshire” in white letters.
“I am not afraid to be deported,” Cuellar, originally of El Salvador, said through a translator. “It could happen today or tomorrow. I’m not afraid. Someone has to put their face out there. My undocumented community is paralyzed by fear.”
