Father Paul Ybarra from St. Aldabert Catholic Church in South Bend spent his night calling to see if people plan on voting.
“Remind people polls open up at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. and any other information we can give them,” said Ybarra. “If they don’t know their polling place is, we can get them to the website or we can actually connect them with information to tell them exactly where to go.”
Some callers may instantly be hung up on, but Ybarra says that still can help.
“The more people are bothered or irritated to kind of get out there, the more likely they are going to think about it,” said Ybarra. “They think ‘It’s open to six” and it’s in the back of their head. They are going to go out there and make their vote count.”
He says some people may already be thinking about voting, but it could take more than one voice to convince them to actually go.
