Rev. John Burns II, who founded First A.M.E. (FAME) Church of Farmington Hills, died unexpectedly Friday evening.
Burns, 71, had declared his candidacy for Farmington Hills city council. He apparently suffered a medical event that led to a single-car accident. He had been pastor at First A.M.E. over the past four years and in ministry since 2001.
According to a biography on his campaign’s website, the native Detroiter and Wayne State alum worked with the Farmington Area Interfaith Association, The Multicultural/Multiracial (MCMR) Community Council of Farmington/Farmington Hills, ACLU People Power, Black Methodist Alliance, Michigan Faith in Action, and, Poor People’s Campaign, working toward the goal of “building the beloved community.”
