A group of local activists and ministers took off from Downtown  Bakersfield for the U.S.-Mexico border Friday morning.

The group will join others from across California to protest President Trump’s recent policy of separating migrant children from their parents detained after crossing into the U.S. Illegally.

Faith in the Valley is the driving force behind the local effort to draw attention to the controversial detention policy.

“If the legislature won’t act and our administration is only representing a small population, then the people have no other choice than to peacefully protest,” ordained minister Chuck Shawver said.

The group of nearly two dozen people will march and pray for three days along with thousands from around the state.
