Florida high school students announced a plan to sue after Governor Ron DeSantis banned AP African American history courses. “We’re here to give notice to Governor DeSantis that if he does not negotiate with the college board to allow AP African American studies to be thought in the classrooms across the State of Florida. These three young people will be the lead plaintiffs in a historic lawsuit,” civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump said.
TheĀ state has previously pointed out six areas of concern for the course that includes topics surrounding: the reparations movement, black struggle in the 21st century, queer studies, and movements for black lives. “It makes me feel as though that I am insignificant,” LaVon Bracy said, “Whatever happens in my life, whatever happened in my life it doesn’t really matter.”
