As immigrants and communities of color prepare, elected leaders and presidential candidates must condemn Trump

WASHINGTON, DC — The following is a statement by Richard Morales, Policy and Program Director for LA RED, Faith in Action’s immigrants’ rights program:

“First, voters know that Trump has an obsession with creating unnecessary chaos, especially now, as he prepares to formally announce his re-election campaign. Therefore, we demand that Trump’s threats and actions be condemned by elected officials and especially by all candidates seeking to replace Trump in the White House.

“Second, we want to assure our communities that we are ready to fight back. While Trump creates a reign of terror against immigrants and communities of color, we will not be bullied. We are prepared for his tactics.

“Our leaders have been trained for possible raids and are distributing ‘Know Your Rights’ materials. We also have ‘Deportation Defense’ guides ready and are prepared to record and witness any raids as they occur. Our congregations also are ready to offer sanctuary, as they have done in individual cases, as in the case of Rosa Gutiérrez López, who has been in sanctuary for more than five months at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda, MD.”
