FAITH AND COMMUNITY LEADERS AND CHILDREN TO URGE CONGRESS TO STOP CRUEL TREATMENT OF FAMILIES AT U.S.-MEXICO BORDER

THURSDAY – June 21 – 11:30 AM – Russell Senate Office Bldg Rotunda

WASHINGTON, DC — Faith in Action (formerly known as PICO National Network), DMV Sanctuary Congregation Network, Franciscan Action Network, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Moms Rising, We Belong Together, and children will take to Capitol Hill Mylar survival blankets, like those being used by immigrant children who have been separated from their parents in Texas, to protest the cruel treatment of immigrants by the Trump administration.

Advocates will pray with the children who represent those being detained in Texas and call on Congress to stop the separation and criminalization policies against people seeking refuge. Leaders also will call on Congress to defund the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which is carrying out the president’s hateful agenda against immigrants.

Following the protest, the children and leaders will deliver letters and blankets to congressional offices.

VISUALS: Children and faith and community leaders of faith community will use Mylar mats which symbolize the spaces where children are being housed in Texas against their will. The news media will be invited to follow the group as letters are delivered.
