MOBILE, Ala.– Clergy from across Alabama are speaking out in support of the state’s Muslim community following violent threats made toward a mosque in Mobile.

In a statement, Rabbi Steven Silberman of Congregation Ahavas Chesed of Mobile, Alabama, and the Faith in Action Alabama Mobile Hub offered words in solidarity for the Muslim community:

“The despicable hate-filled threats made against the Masjid Baitul Haqq mosque in Mobile, not only assaults the sacred sanctuary of worship but also damages the democratic values that we work for and expect to be granted to everyone. In our shared commitment to love, dignity, and liberation, we unite in opposition to such heinous acts, determined to uphold the principles that define our shared beliefs and serve as the foundation of our multi-faith community. Through this commitment, we strengthen the connections that tie us together, fostering a collective resilience against any forces that seek to disrupt the unity and understanding we cherish.”

The Rev. Dr. A.B. Sutton, Jr. of Living Stones Temple in Fultondale, Alabama, and Faith in Action Alabama’s Board of Directors expressed a similar sentiment, pledging support for Muslim Alabamians:

“Following the malicious intent to undermine our democratic life, I stand in support of my Muslim brothers and sisters in Mobile and throughout the state. As a person of faith, I am compelled by divine command to celebrate the sanctity of life and passionately oppose all assaults against its sacred essence.”
