NJ.com – Organized clergy joined the fight against an immigrant detention center in Newark on Monday, when two dozen pastors, rabbis and leaders of faith-based organizations stood shoulder-to-shoulder against a barbed wire-topped gate where the city’s mayor was arrested three days before.

“I’m here because my Universalist faith tells me to love the Hell out of this world,” the Rev. Anya Sammler of the Universalist Unitarian Congregation in Montclair told a crowd of more than 100 demonstrators outside Delaney Hall, the detention center owned and operated by the Florida-based GEO Group under a contract with ICE. “And what we are seeing in this world is Hell.”
