WASHINGTON – Leaders with Faith in Action condemn Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and are urging the Biden Administration to consistently uphold democracy and human rights at home and abroad. The invasion has already led to more than 200 lives lost and many Ukrainians have been forced to flee their country.

Rev. Alvin Herring, executive director of Faith in Action released the following statement:

“Our prayers and solidarity are with the Ukrainian people right now. The violence and suffering that Vladimir Putin is inflicting on them is an atrocity. This is one struggle for human dignity and democracy. Much of the world is watching with a collective sense of helplessness as Russia’s military continues to brutally invade Ukraine. The Administration must make democracy and human rights a consistent priority at home and abroad. The United States has the power to welcome those fleeing by using every tool available to push back against Putin’s brutality and by providing them refugee and or TPS status. That is the least we can offer in this human rights crisis.  

“The brutal invasion of Ukraine should outrage everyone watching the events unfold. As we pray for all who are impacted and mourn the loss of life, I urge the Biden Administration to make democracy and human rights a consistent priority. I keep the people whose hearts were heavy and filled with angst just before the invasion began, but still went to dinner last night with loved ones, those who took their kids to the park before bedtime and the ones who stopped by their houses of worship to pray. Those are the people who will lose in this battle. We condemn those who attempt to lead through war and aggression. War is never the way. One thing is certain, It should have been dialogue not war to solve this conflict.”
