BIRMINGHAM – On Saturday, December 12 at 9:00 a.m. CT, community and faith leaders with Faith in Action federation Faith in Action Alabama (FIAAL) will hold its Peacemakers Campaign 2020 Lament and Hope Motorcade at Avondale Park, 4101 5th Ave. S., Birmingham. The event is being held to honor the lives of homicide victims in Birmingham, commemorate this year’s Peacemakers work towards decreasing gun violence in the Birmingham area, and celebrate FIAAL’s 2021 strategy to reduce gun violence in Birmingham. The motorcade will begin lining up at 9:00 a.m., and begin at 9:30 a.m., rain or shine.
“Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused the suspension of the Peacemakers’ community night walks it did not sideline us,” said Onoyemi Williams, FIAAL’s Peacemakers Community Organizer. “This year the Peacemakers provided PPE giveaways in the community through the Mask for People Project and Voter Engagement Events, while still providing virtual support of families through the Victims Response Program. The Birmingham Community Gun Violence Table was established in partnership with Jefferson County Health Department, UAB’s Hospital Trauma Department, along with other community stakeholders. In addition, UAB Hospital, with satellite programs at other local hospitals, will implement a Hospital-based Violence Interruption Program. Also, Birmingham, was selected as one of 6 cities to be selected by the Everytown For Gun Safety to participate in the Health Alliance for Violence Intervention cohort program.”
