While it’s been 51 years since the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his voice was still being heard in the First United Methodist Church’s New Life Center Monday morning, Jan. 21, during the NAACP Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast.
The theme of this year’s breakfast was “… where do you stand in times of controversy and challenge,” a theme that came directly from a speech of Dr. King’s.
The Rev. Dr. Cassandra Gould, pastor of Quinn Chapel AMC Church in Jefferson City and executive director of Missouri Faith Voices, was this year’s guest speaker.
“Dr. King says, ‘It’s not where you stand when its comfortable,’” Gould recounted. “‘It’s not where you stand when it’s convenient. But where does a person stand in a time of challenge, in a time of controversy.’”
