The day began with a joint event of border witnesses, followed by a vigil and a protest in Tornillo, then the activists traveled to Casa de Anunciación to volunteer.
“After the shooting at the Synagogue of the Tree of Life in Pittsburgh, where the reasoning for the murder was because the Jewish community takes the command to welcome the stranger, we are even more deeply committed to this action,” said Rabbi Josh Whinston, from Beth Emeth Temple in Ann Arbor.
“An asylum seeker crosses the border, enters detention and then, if released, goes to a shelter. We are recreating and contextualizing that visit by ourselves to know what those who ask for asylum are going through. ”
