Lew Finfer, co-director of Boston-based Massachusetts Communities Action Network, helped Mr. Kartheiser establish Worcester Interfaith. He described his longtime friend as a hard worker with a positive, upbeat, hopeful personality.
“Frank is a person of faith and he is a doer. He has adapted to working on tough issues,” said Mr. Finfer. “He’s got a big heart for justice and a big gut to take on the shared work of countless hours of organizing.”
During Mr. Kartheiser’s 25 years as Worcester Interfaith’s first and only executive director, the organization has been involved in creating after school programs, increasing youth jobs and opportunities and getting inner-city neighborhood pools re-opened in 1994 after the city closed them because of budget cuts two years earlier.
