A coalition of organizations representing various minority communities expressed their disappointment in the U. S. Supreme Court for upholding the president’s travel ban from mostly-Muslim countries and encouraged citizens to use their votes to foster change during a press conference in Birmingham Tuesday afternoon.
The 5-4 decision rejects a challenge from attorneys in Hawaii stating that the ban was discriminatory against Muslims and that President Donald Trump was exceeding his authority. Officials with Muslim advocacy group CAIR Alabama said they started getting calls from concerned community leaders shortly after the ruling was made.
Executive Director Khaula Hadeed released a community advisory Wednesday morning educating Muslims about what to expect.
