The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a non-profit organization that advocates for civil rights guaranteed by the Constitution, now has a local office in El Paso, with which they seek to join efforts with other entities at the service of the border community.
Prior to this opening, the nearest branch was located in the city of Las Cruces, NM, under the office of the Regional Center for Border Rights (RCBR). But now these operations were moved to the El Paso region with the mission of better serving the needs of both El Paso and southern New Mexico.
“We will be working on different civil rights issues, both focused on the border and immigration, but also issues of the LGBT community and the rights of women’s reproduction,” said Cynthia Pompa, advocacy coordinator of the ACLU Center for Border Rights. .
