Manchester immigration attorney George Bruno of Mesa Law, LLC, said a wide range of nonprofit organizations provide services for immigrants.
Bruno said that about a half-dozen New Hampshire law firms specialize in immigration law, while a handful of other firms handle immigration issues as well as other services.
He said that the state’s low unemployment rate of 2.6 percent allows refugees to find employment more easily in New Hampshire than refugees in other states. But he said the most difficult challenge facing refugees is affordable housing.
For across-the-board services for immigrants, Bruno cited the Granite State Organizing Project — a faith-based organization that includes immigration counseling as part of its offerings.
Describing itself as “the largest grassroots community organization in New Hampshire,” the project’s volunteers help immigrants who are now facing increased enforcement from ICE and increases in “random acts of hate.”
The Manchester Health Department and Child Health Services are major players in providing health services to immigrants and refugees.
